Occasionally, random quotes drift through my mind.
One of them was an aphorism coined by one of the most repulsive monsters of business and finance from the last century, ranting fascist financier Sir James Goldsmith.
Amongst his many unpleasant facets, this red-faced billionaire wittily quipped 'When you marry your mistress, you create a vacancy'.
Sadly, I suspect he's right. He reminds me too of the Tory MP whose idea of comedy gold was to introduce his spouse as 'my current wife'. What a charmer.
