The Spirit Level is a book which uses publicly available statistics on health, earnings, taxation and a host of other figures to make a very simple point: it doesn't matter whether you live in a rich or poor country: the happiest, safest and healthiest populations are in more equal societies. Another reason, by the way, to move to Scandinavia in addition to their stylish architecture, spectacles and bicycles. I was so impressed by the book that I helped get the authors to visit the university to present their case to the students.
There's now a film in production, and you can donate towards getting it made. I've given them a little of my book money. You should too. They only need $9000 more. And David Cameron will hate it.
